Maiyan: God’s Blessings in Nanyuki

We walked through the different booths at a buildings and homes expo in Nairobi, sales representative ushered us into her booth and talked about a new luxury villa development in Nanyuki that we should visit. She handed us an information pack about the property, as I flipped through the booklet, my eyes caught the words, ‘with views of Mt. Kenya and Lollidaga Hills’. She later took our business cards and about three weeks later, I received a call for an overnight Familization trip to Falcon Heights and Maiyan.

On the set date we departed Nairobi at about 9:30am and arrived Falcon Heights in time for lunch; we later toured the facility and left for Maiyan. As we left Falcon Heights, and the manager told us ‘Maiyan is Real’; his words kept lingering in my mind. I had seen a couple of images online and an artist impression on the marketing brochure and was quite curious to see and experience what Maiyan had to offer. We left Falcon Heights and made a brief stopover at admire the wild and personal landscapes of Laikipia as we also took shots of the same.

About 5 minutes later, we arrived at a picturesque residential development; Maiyan that is situated 5kms off the Nanyuki – Doldol road. Maiyan is a Maasai word meaning God’s Blessing. The green development sits on a lush landscape, against the iconic backdrop of Mt. Kenya and Loldaiga Hills. Standing tall and majestic were five duplex villas with exquisite finishing and we wouldn’t wait to check into our rooms and sample their famed roof-top pool lounge as we departed their centralized parking area.

Upon registration at the reservations desk, we checked into our villa on the upper floor. The duplex villa has three levels; ground, upper and rooftop floor. Our upper floor villa had modern and self-contained facilities.

The living room is exquisite with a fireplace and an open plan kitchenette and three spacious en-suite bedrooms that can accommodate six people comfortably. The rooms have a dressing and working table, a flat-screen TV and a kettle to prepare your preferred beverage. There is a bathroom en-suite, bathroom and slippers and eco-friendly toiletries.

The patios and roof top command amazing views of Mt. Kenya and Lolldaiga Hills, the lounge at the roof-top has a jacuzzi, pool, lounge and outdoor barbeque area ideal to catch up with friends and family.

Late afternoon, we visited one of the man-made lakes and horse stables and a children play area with a utility area with well-manicured gardens.

In the evening, the manager had organized a sundowner cocktail on mini-bar’s yard as we enjoyed the breeze, views of the sun setting and soothing classical music as he shared the investment opportunities available in Maiyan and their future development plans.

At about 7:30pm we headed to the restaurant for dinner, we had earlier pre-ordered our meals and couldn’t wait to indulge in our 3-Course meal. The cream of broccoli soup with pepper awakened my taste buds. The meal was inviting and consisted of rice, shallow fried potatoes, spinach, ratatouille and fillet fish was soft, tasty and tantalizing. Grapes, chocolate cake and custard are my favorite dessert meals and couldn’t wait to dig in and indulge. We chatted the night away over soothing music, drinks and a game of scrabble and retired to our warm cotton-spread double bed.

After a hearty buffet breakfast of cereals, coffee, baked beans and spinach we headed back to Nairobi after farewell with the manager and the team that ensured that we had a comfortable stay and fantastic experience at Maiyan. We left Maiyan, having been inspired by their key elements; blessing, harmony and excellence.
