Samburu National Reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya’s vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Masai. Samburu Reserve as a safari destination has rugged and dramatic landscape, the Ewaso Nyiro river runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu Game Reserve and is home to crocodile and hippo with the many animals visiting to drink during the heat of the day. Samburu safari may offer sighting of buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and other plains game. Species of game unique to Samburu game reserve dubbed the Samburu Special Five include; Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe and Somali Ostrich.

  1. Day 1 Nairobi to Samburu

    Pick up from your Nairobi and drive north to Samburu National Reserve to arrive at in time for lunch. After lunch, proceed for an afternoon game drive in the reserve which covers 165 square kilometers. Ololokwe Table Mountain forms a dramatic backdrop to our game viewing. We shall go in search of the #BigCats and diverse birds species including resident and migratory birds. Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak the Miracle Lioness that adapted the baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve). Later we shall head back to camp for dinner and overnight.

  2. Day 2 Samburu National Reserve

    Depart for early morning game drive in the Game Reserve, Samburu is also home to the third of Kenya’s giraffe species – the rare Reticulated Giraffe (only found in the Northern parks). Birdlife is abundant with over 450 species recorded. Birds of the arid northern bush country are augmented by a number of riverine forest species. Lesser Kestrel and the Taita Falcon are species of global conservation concern and they both utilize the reserve. Five species categorized as vulnerable have been recorded in the reserve. These include; African Darter, Great Egret, White-headed Vulture, Martial Eagle and the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker. The critically endangered species under CITIES – Pancake tortoise (malacochersus tornieri) is also found in the reserve. Thereafter, we will head back for full breakfast; departing Samburu mid-morning, we will reach Nairobi in the evening. Here we will part ways after having had an amazing encounter of the spectacular Samburu Game Reserve.

  3. Day 3 Samburu to Nairobi

    Early Morning breakfast at your camp or Lodge. Later check out and drive to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch. Lunch at Restaurant afterwards drop off at your respective hotel or Airport.
